From its participation in GSI, the director of Human Resources of the Angolan Ministry of Education, Ramiro José João, decided to hire LBC (creator of the GSI program) to train the Ministry’s national directors in leadership, management and innovation skills.
Measures
The Leadership in Action program was customized to the needs of the Angolan Ministry of Education, that identified the critical skills to be developed for its national directors over the course of eight days. This consisted of an initial assessment of leadership skills, followed by training in competencies taking into account the specificities of public administration, namely innovation and change management, strategy, planning and monitoring, high performance team management, project management, delegation and accountability, finance for non-financial, among others. The program was concluded with a diploma ceremony, attended by Angola’s Secretary of State for Education, and to which the media were invited.
Reduction costs and inefficiences
Leadership in Action was an innovative project that gave way to another program, directed to department heads of the Ministry, and again customized according to the specific needs of the participants. This second Leadership in Action had more operational modules, focused on people management, emotional intelligence, change management, archival and document management, among others.
With Leadership in Action, the Angolan Ministry of Education standardized leadership and management styles and reduced costs and inefficiencies. At the same time, it mobilized national directors and department heads from all over Angola to participate in the program, thus disseminating the skills learned into various localizations in the country.
